Deep Learning Intern
András is dedicated to ensure we can accurately determine broccoli sizes in even the most challenging drone imagery. He is currently a first year Masters AI student at the University of Amsterdam. He finished a Physics and Mathematics Bsc. back in Hungary. In his free time András likes to play chess. In his younger years he pursued this hobby on a competitive level, attending many national and international tournaments. He also likes playing poker and watching series.
Together with Kaz and Eric, Bas founded VanBoven. He is responsible for all operational activities and customer contact, varying from sales and data collection to customer support. Bas is always enthusiastic and brings a positive energy into the office. Outside of work he likes to run, fitness and do hands-on DIY projects. When the sun is shining, Bas is usually found outside enjoying it.
Berend handles our operation and makes sure all the data we need is actually being gathered.
Besides taking on a challenge at VanBoven, Berend enjoys putting his own capabilities to the test by actively training strengths sports like weightlifting and powerlifting.
Chloé’s mission is to explore how satellite data can complement drone data in building vegetable harvest forecasts. Chloé is finishing her Master degree in Geo-Information Sciences at Wageningen University and completed an agriculture engineering degree in France. In her free time, she likes to practice archery, grow plants and observe wildlife.
Daan has just finished his BSc. Industrial Design Engineering at TU Delft and is doing the heavy lifting in ‘all things operational’ at VanBoven. Daan makes sure customer operations are running smooth and if not, fixes them! He’ll start his MSc. In Integrated Product Design in February. In his free time, Daan loves to spend time on drone videography, triathlons and watches NBA/NFL.
Diederik is currently finishing his BSc. Industrial Design Engineering at TU Delft and is supporting our management team at VanBoven. Diederik leaves no stone unturned and his perfectionist and structured character will make sure that everything checks out. He is currently choosing between two MSc. programs to start in september, so we’ll keep you posted on that. In his spare time Diederik likes to work out, play some video games and spending time with friends.
Eric is responsible for all things technical at VanBoven. He knows what is technically possible and uses this to lead and support VanBoven’s development team. Eric is extremely laid-back and has a fun style of humor (most people think so at least). When not working, he likes to spend his time adventurously on his road bike, mountain biking and hiking. Every year he also does a mid-winter camping trip in some remote mountainous area.
Machine Learning Engineer
Florian is VanBoven’s true scientist: he did his Ph. D. in France and moved to the Netherlands as Postdoc. Having a strong and diverse background in philosophy, cognitive psychology, computational neuroscience and Machine Learning, Florian brings a lot of experience to the Machine Learning team at VanBoven. His daily work ranges from building data pipelines to developing machine learning models from the ground up. Florian is VanBoven’s first father and the one introducing the rest of the team to proper lunch routines.
Together with the other co-founders, Kaz ensures the strategy of VanBoven is up-to-date and clear. Within the founding team, he’s responsible for financing and team matters. Kaz is always on the lookout for improvements and uses this to create a better environment for everybody to work in. When not working he likes to read and play guitar.
Lars van Kleef
Machine Learning Engineer
After working for VanBoven during a university project ánd doing his internship with us as part of his Geo-Information Science studies at Wageningen University, Lars is now working as a full-time Machine Learning Engineer at VanBoven. He is working on improving machine learning based crop detection models using new incoming drone imagery, building on the knowledge of computer vision he acquired during his Master thesis. In his free time Lars likes gaming, surfing, and other sports like fitness and bouldering.
Product Engineering Graduate
Martijn finished his Masters in Applied Mathematics at TU Delft at VanBoven. He is part of VanBoven’s technical development team, developing algorithms to pre-processes aerial images enabling time series analysis of growing crops. If someone has a technical problem Martijn is always there to help and offer solutions. In his free time Martijn can be found hanging from a bouldering wall, windsurfing or playing games. He is also the coffee expert of VanBoven.
Product Engineering Support
Nathan is doing his Bachelor in Aerospace Engineering at TU Delft. He joined VanBoven as a working student, where he helps out with the development of new features with a focus on creating data visualization dashboards. Outside of work he enjoys baking, going on long runs and playing bass.
Ruben van der Waal
Product Engineering Support
Ruben has a lot of software knowledge: and knows a lot about stitching images. That’s exactly what he’s doing at VanBoven as a part-time support student: making sure we can stitch together low-altitude drone imagery. When he’s not at VanBoven, Ruben is finishing his MSc. Informatics at Leiden University. There, he also works as a student assistant in Data Science, Python and several other programming courses. In the free time he has left he likes to do fitness, cook and enjoys the occasional snowboarding.
Shiplu has many years of experience in designing large scale software and distributed systems. He focuses mainly on backend architecture and DevOps in VanBoven. He loves to improve the overall skill of the team by arranging workshop sessions. In the leisure time, he spends time with his balcony green house, raspberry pi and stargazing with a telescope.
Full Stack Developer
Sidney has a multidisciplinary background in bio-informatics (Bsc.) and industrial ecology (Msc.). His goal is to use his skill set in software engineering, industrial ecology and biology to contribute to the development of sustainable food production systems. In the past he has spend his time in various agri-tech projects that are involved in hydroponics, aquaponics and conventional agriculture. At VanBoven he is tasked with product development for yield prediction covering back-end and front-end engineering in cooperation with the VanBoven product team. His dream is to eventually have an operational role on his own farm applying his previous knowledge on technology and innovation.
